Job Purpose:
The job purpose of the Field Production General Manager is to lead and oversee the field production
operations, including hull construction, outfitting, pre-blasting and painting, painting, machinery installation,
and commissioning. The General Manager is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of
shipbuilding projects, meeting quality and safety standards, optimizing resource utilization, and delivering
projects on time and within budget.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Hull Construction:
Oversee and manage hull construction activities, including steel fabrication, welding, and
assembly, to ensure compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
Coordinate with the engineering team to ensure proper interpretation of technical drawings and
specifications for accurate hull construction.
Implement quality control measures to verify the structural integrity and dimensional accuracy of
the hull components.
2. Outfitting:
Manage the outfitting process, including installation of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing
systems, accommodation areas, and interior fittings.
Ensure the timely availability of outfitting materials and equipment for efficient installation and
integration into the ship structure.
Collaborate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure the smooth coordination of outfitting
activities and adherence to project schedules.
3. Pre-Blasting & Painting:
Supervise the pre-blasting and painting processes, ensuring the proper surface preparation and
application of protective coatings on the ship's hull and structures.
Implement quality control measures to verify the adhesion, thickness, and finish of the applied
coatings.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety procedures related to surface
preparation and painting activities.
4. Machinery Installation:
Oversee the installation of machinery and equipment, including propulsion systems, auxiliary
systems, and onboard machinery.
Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to ensure accurate alignment, integration, and
testing of machinery components.
Ensure compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements
during machinery installation.
5. Commissioning:
Manage the commissioning phase of shipbuilding projects, which involves testing, trials, and
systems integration to ensure proper functioning and performance of all ship systems.
Coordinate with classification societies, regulatory bodies, and client representatives to facilitate
inspections and certifications.
Oversee sea trials and performance tests to validate the ship's operational capabilities and
compliance with contractual requirements.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
A master's degree is a plus.
Shipbuilding Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of shipbuilding processes, materials, and technologies to effectively manage production operations and address industry-specific challenges.
Production Management: Proficiency in managing all aspects of production operations, including production planning, resource allocation, workflow optimization, and process improvement.
Quality Management: Expertise in establishing and maintaining quality control systems, conducting inspections and audits, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
. Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant maritime regulations, classification society rules, and industry standards to ensure compliance and obtain necessary certifications during the shipbuilding process.
Minimum of 20 years of experience in Shipbuilding Field Production Management or a similar manufacturing environment.
