Job Purpose

The role involves administering, installing, and configuring IT computing and communications networks. The role holder will be responsible for maintaining and operating public and private 5G networks, as well as GSM coverage. Additionally, will work with all stakeholders for the setup of both temporary and permanent networks and receive handover of the permanent network and infrastructure from SAPMT. Responsibilities will also include operating and maintaining the full network infrastructure throughout the shipyard, including but not limited to fiber infrastructure, cables, duct banks, ducts, manholes, racks, switches, firewalls, ISP rooms, ISP links, relationships, and SLAs with ISPS.

Key Accountabilities

• Overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's entire network infrastructure. This includes wired and wireless networks, internet connectivity, 5G/4G, GSM CV overage, firewalls, and security measures.

• Planning for future growth and scalability to ensure the network can accommodate evolving business needs and new technologies.

• Implementing robust security measures to protect the organization's data and systems from cyberattacks and unauthorized access.

• Staying informed about the latest security threats and vulnerabilities, and proactively updating security protocols to maintain a strong defense.

• Developing and enforcing security policies that guide employee behavior and minimize security risks.

• Monitoring network performance metrics like bandwidth utilization, latency, and uptime to identify and troubleshoot any bottlenecks or performance issues.

• Optimizing network configurations and resources to ensure smooth operation and efficient data transfer.

• Implementing technologies to prioritize critical network traffic and ensure optimal performance for business-critical applications.

• Leading the team responsible for providing technical support to users experiencing network-related issues. This includes troubleshooting connectivity problems, assisting with user account management, and ensuring access to necessary network resources.

• Developing and implementing procedures for user provisioning and de-provisioning to manage network access rights effectively.

• Collaborating with other departments to understand business needs and translate those needs into a strategic IT network plan.

• Justifying budget requests for network infrastructure upgrades, new technologies, and security solutions.

• Staying up to date on emerging network technologies and assessing their potential benefits for the organization.

• Administrating and managing networks for cloud environments and related infrastructures.

• Install, configure, maintain, and support IT networks and related monitoring applications.

• Adhere to Service Level Agreements SLA, when supporting end-users, and train newly hired IT Network Analysts.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Education

Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or equivalent.

  • Professional Qualifications

Technical certifications in the field of applications development and/or implementation, e.g., MCITP, ITIL, CCNP, CCSP, VCAP, RHCA, Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP) or Expert (HCIE) or equivalent.

  • Experience

Minimum of 9-15 years of relevant experience.

  • Languages

Thoroughly proficient in both verbal and written English.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

• Strong understanding of network protocols: This includes TCP/IP, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), switching protocols (e.g., VLANs, STP), and wireless protocols (e.g., 802.11x).

• Network infrastructure design: Ability to design and plan scalable and secure network architectures for wired and wireless networks.

• Knowledge of network security best practices: Understanding of firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), access control lists (ACLs), and secure network design principles.

• Familiarity with emerging network technologies: Knowledge of trends like Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and cloud networking.

• Network monitoring and troubleshooting: Proficiency in using network monitoring tools to identify and troubleshoot network performance issues, bottlenecks, and outages.

• Performance optimization: Ability to optimize network performance through configuration changes, traffic shaping, and resource allocation.

• Change management: Understanding the importance of implementing changes to the network infrastructure with minimal disruption and a clear rollback strategy.

• Strong understanding of network security threats: Familiarity with common cyberattacks, vulnerabilities, and security best practices.

• Firewall and network security appliance configuration: Ability to configure firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and other security devices to protect the network.

• Security policy development and enforcement: Creating and enforcing security policies that govern user access, data security, and network usage.
