Job Purpose
The job purpose of the Workshop Production General Manager is to oversee and manage the workshop production operations, including steel cutting and sub-assembly, flat block assembly, curved block assembly, pre-outfitting, pipe production, unit production, and scaffolding. The General Manager is responsible for ensuring efficient and high-quality shipbuilding processes, optimizing resource utilization, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
Key Accountabilities
1. Steel Cutting and Sub-Assembly:
Oversee steel cutting activities, ensuring accurate interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications.
Manage sub-assembly processes, coordinating with the welding and fabrication teams to ensure proper fit and alignment of steel components.
Implement quality control measures to verify the dimensional accuracy and quality of steel structures and sub-assemblies.
2. Flat Block Assembly:
Supervise the assembly of flat blocks, including decking and bulkheads, according to engineering plans and project requirements.
Coordinate with the workforce and subcontractors to ensure efficient block assembly, accurate alignment, and adherence to quality standards.
Implement measures to optimize flat block assembly processes, minimize rework, and improve productivity.
3. Curved Block Assembly:
Manage the assembly of curved blocks, including hull and superstructure components, utilizing bending and forming techniques.
Coordinate with the engineering and production teams to ensure proper alignment, welding, and fairing of curved blocks.
Implement quality control measures to verify the accuracy of curvature, fit-up, and structural integrity of curved block assemblies.
4. Pre-Outfitting:
Oversee pre-outfitting activities, including the installation of equipment, machinery, and systems within block assemblies.
Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure proper routing of piping, cabling, and other systems during pre-outfitting.
Monitor progress and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure timely completion of pre-outfitting tasks.
5. Pipe Production:
Manage pipe production activities, including pipe fabrication, bending, welding, and installation.
Coordinate with the engineering and production teams to ensure the availability of pipe materials, accurate routing, and proper installation methods.
Implement quality control measures to verify the dimensional accuracy, fit, and integrity of pipes and pipe systems.
6. Unit Production:
Oversee the production of shipbuilding units, including assembly, integration, and testing of major components and systems.
Coordinate with various departments, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure seamless unit production and timely delivery.
Implement quality control measures to verify the functionality and compliance of units with engineering specifications.
7. Scaffolding:
Supervise scaffolding operations, ensuring the availability of scaffolding materials, safe erection, and compliance with industry standards.
Collaborate with the safety team to implement scaffolding safety procedures and conduct regular inspections for compliance and maintenance.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 18 years of experience in Shipbuilding Workshop Production Management or a similar manufacturing environment.
Languages:
Fluent in English (speaking, writing, reading)

7. Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of health and safety regulations and commitment to ensuring a safe working environment, compliance with applicable laws, and adherence to ethical standards in all aspects of production.
8. Collaboration and Vendor Management: Strong collaborative skills to effectively work with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, ensuring timely delivery of materials, equipment, and services in accordance with project requirements and specifications.
9. Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant maritime regulations, classification society rules, and industry standards to ensure compliance and obtain necessary certifications during the shipbuilding process.
10. Leadership and Team Management: Exceptional leadership skills to motivate and inspire a diverse team, promote collaboration, and foster a positive work environment. Ability to effectively delegate tasks, provide guidance, and encourage professional development.
