Job Purpose:

We are looking to hire Consultant, Structural Engineering,

This job role is to ensure to provide consultation regarding Structural and give expertise supervision of the overall detail/production drawings in Ship Building.

Key Accountabilities & Working Relationships

Key Accountabilities:

The Consultant, Structural Engineering who will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Consult the Structural Discipline Engineers for the Structural division.

  • Create Master Engineering Plan for the Structural Division of New Project considering Construction Schedule, Procurement and Detail/Production MP/MP.

  • Evaluate Engineering Manpower with analysing changeable design workload for the Structural Division and Deploy engineers where needed.

  • Develop and structure the division’s engineering capabilities for the Discipline in line with the department’s strategic development plan.

  • Contribute to the professional development of employees by providing training and mentoring.

  • Monitor and ensure achievement of key performance indicators for the engineering discipline.

  • Assist the department manager in development and implementation of process and procedures and ERM/CAD system implementation in the engineering.

  • Provide guidance Update drawings according to result of feedback with each party of Clients, Classification Societies, Operation/Commissioning team, Vendors, and sub-contractors.

  • Generate required technical information for production using CAD/CAM/ERM system.

  • Support projects and production ensuring that detail/productions design deliverables are provided in a timely manner.

  • Support for commissioning team to Arrange/Manage the service engineers from vendors for commissioning.

  • Attend/Manage the major commissioning, test, and trial.

  • Establish and ensure the use of standard engineering details for the discipline.

  • Contribute to the professional development of employees by providing training and mentoring.

  • Support the commercial team and provide technical assistance when required for Bids and Proposals.

  • Ensure quality and accuracy of the engineering deliverables for the discipline and ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) responsibilities.

Working Relationships:

Internal Interactions: 

  • Internal Engineering Department, other business work-streams within the company, Engineering Manager, GM Engineering, VP Engineering.

External Interactions:

  • Suppliers, Subcontractors, Consultants, Inspection Agencies.

Who we are looking for

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural / Civil Engineering or Naval Architecture Engineering or equivalent.

  • Preferred – master’s degree in Structural engineering.

Experience:

  • At least 18+ years’ experience, 5 years of which is in managerial or similar role within engineering department of any shipbuilding industry in related engineering field.

Professional Qualifications (Certifications & Accreditations):

  • Preferred – any other additional certification courses in Structural engineering and project management.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Sound knowledge of international design codes & standards, maritime regulations, and class rules.

  • Design knowledge/experience in structural calculations using FEM.

  • Exposure to AutoCAD & 3D design tools like AVEVA.

  • Exposure to structural analysis software such as ANSYS, SACS, STAAD Pro, Abaqus.

  • Demonstrated high-order interpersonal skills and the ability to operate within a multinational environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others with regards to continuous improvement.

  • Ability to manage internal processes against Customer’s expectations.

  • Excellent negotiation skills for high valued technically & commercially complex projects.

  • Good presentation skill.

  • Knowledge/Experience in leading technical contract meeting with Customer’s for new contracts.

  • Ability to understand market data analytics, news, trends and translate these into design.

  • Design knowledge/experience in basic or detailed engineering for B/C and Oil Tanker.

  • Ability to understand the manufacturing process of shipbuilding and convert these into efficient engineering.

  • English. (Mandatory)

  • Arabic / Others (desirable)
