Pipe Production Manager
- The job purpose of the Pipe Production Department Manager in shipbuilding is to oversee and manage the pipe production operations, ensuring the efficient manufacturing of pipes and pipe systems used in ship construction. The role involves leading a team, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring compliance with project requirements, quality standards, and safety regulations.
Key Accountabilities
1. Efficient Pipe Production: Ensure the timely and cost-effective manufacturing of pipes and pipe systems, adhering to project specifications and industry standards. Optimize production processes, resource allocation, and workflow to enhance efficiency and productivity.
2. Team Leadership and Development: Lead and develop a skilled team of pipe production technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the department.
3. Quality Assurance: Implement robust quality control measures to ensure the production of high-quality pipes. Monitor and enforce compliance with quality standards, inspection procedures, and dimensional tolerances.
4. Compliance with Specifications: Ensure that all pipes and pipe systems manufactured adhere to project specifications, engineering drawings, and customer requirements. Collaborate with engineering and design teams to address any discrepancies or modifications needed.
5.Production Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and planners to develop production plans, schedules, and resource allocation. Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of pipe systems.
6. Material Management: Coordinate with procurement and inventory departments to ensure the availability of raw materials, fittings, and components required for pipe manufacturing. Optimize material usage and minimize waste.
7. Safety and Risk Management: Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the pipe production department. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and implement appropriate risk mitigation measures to prevent accidents and injuries.
8. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement in pipe production operations. Implement best practices, new technologies, and innovative solutions to drive continuous improvement and increase productivity.
9. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of pipe production activities, including work orders, production records, inspection reports, and compliance documents. Prepare regular reports on production metrics, quality indicators, and departmental performance.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications in pipe manufacturing or shipbuilding are advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in Pipe Production in shipbuilding. Extensive experience in pipe manufacturing, preferably in the shipbuilding or heavy industry sector. Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role is highly desirable.
