Job Purpose

We are looking to hire Vice President - Engineering& Quality Control,

This job role is to ensure The role encompasses the overall responsibility of overseeing the Engineering and Quality control operations and establishing the strategic goals and objectives for these functions. The role ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of the Engineering and Quality control processes and standards, Building and developing the engineering team as required to achieve company's goals.

Key Accountabilities & Working Relationships

Key Accountabilities:

The Vice President - Engineering& Quality Control who will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Ensure engineering activities are conducted effectively and efficiently. Establish and manage all the engineering functions.

  • Develop and structure the engineering capabilities in line with the strategic development plan, recognizing that engineering services are required in multiple locations for several types of projects.

  • Develop and implement process and procedures and ERP/CAD/CAM system in engineering design.

  • Ensure that all engineering resources are effectively and efficiently employed and ensure that the duplication of resources across facilities is avoided.

  • Select and manage appropriate engineering software for the company and ensure its effective and efficient utilization.

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for the engineering department.

  • Plan the human resources for the department, recruit and deploy the resources as required over various divisions and projects.

  • Ensure Customer’s technical engineering requirements are identified, understood, and ensure that the department meets its contractual obligations from an engineering perspective in all instances.

  • Review basic designs provided by third parties for Engineering Procurement Construction projects to ensure the designs meet the Customer’s performance criteria, if any.

  • Identify and manage engineering risk including contractual performance criteria.

  • Support projects and production ensuring engineering deliverables are provided promptly.

  • Ensure that engineering considers construction methods and efficiency.

  • Determine when engineering activities should be outsourced or subcontracted.

  • Establish and ensure the use of standard engineering details.

  • Contribute to the professional development of employees with emphasis on direct reports.

  • Development of succession plans for key engineering personnel.

  • Support the expansion of operations and the development of Company facilities.

  • Support the commercial team and provide technical assistance when required.

  • Support Procurement and Supply Chain processes and activities, including strategic procurement initiatives.

  • Develop the policy, plan and procedures for the engineering department.

  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) responsibilities.

Internal Interactions: 

  • Internal Engineering Department, other business work-streams within the company, Senior Management, CEO

External Interactions:

  • Customers, Classification Societies, Suppliers, Subcontractors, Consultants, Inspection Agencies

Who we are looking for

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

Experience:

  • 20 + years in any offshore rig building or ship building industry including a minimum of 5 years in senior management post

Professional Qualifications (Certifications & Accreditations):

  • Preferred – Doctorate/master’s degree in engineering, any additional certification courses in rig/ship building design, and project management.

  • Good relationship with Classification Societies members.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Sound knowledge of engineering design for heavy offshore fabrication.

  • Knowledge of cost architecture for Rig / Shipbuilding or marine industry.

  • Experience of leading technical contract meeting with Customer for new contracts.

  • Exposure to Basic, Detail & Production Design in rig / shipbuilding.

  • Ability to translate opportunities into technical sound projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to listen to views of others and respond in a logical, well-thought-out manner.

  • Ability to understand market data analytics, news, trends and translates these into design.

  • Good leadership and team building capability.

  • Ability to manage internal processes against Customer’s expectations.

  • Excellent communication & reporting skills on senior management and operational level.

  • Excellent negotiation skills for high valued technically & commercially complex projects.

  • Good presentation skill.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others regarding continuous improvement.

Languages:

  • Fluent written and spoken English.
