Your future role & Job Purpose

We are looking to hire Technical Support Superintendent who acts as an engineering support to the Lifting and Rigging department as well as monitoring the utilisation of related equipment and ensuring their most effective usage throughout the lifespan. He/ She will advise most cost effective and safe techniques suitable for handling the operational loads and preserving the function of our physical assets throughout their life period. In addition to producing supporting calculations I 
drawings (simple sketches) and other technical documents required for studying the lifts, transport routes and obtaining lifting PTW, he and his team will be responsible for continuous improvement efforts within the L&R team, investigation of root cause failures and deriving preventative and corrective actions. He will maintain L&R Lessons Learned register.

Key Accountabilities & Working Relationships

Key Performance indicators: 

  1. Timely identification of hazards and risks in Lifting and transportation operations in which he/she is involved in review and support documentation preparation and coming up with mitigation proposals.
  2. Cost conscious approach for utilization of equipment and manpower. Timely reporting of all work-related matters to Division & Department Management
  3. Identification of improvement opportunities in Lifting and transportation operations to optimize cost and utilization and increase life cycle

Duties and Responsibility: 

  1. Provide technical support for lifting and rigging department starting from specification and technical data sheet / design requirement and scope of works for new equipment (SPMT, SYT, cranes, Equipment, rigging and too.ls), assist in sourcing and evaluating vendors till delivery, commissioning, inspection, operation, utilization, and performance monitoring.
  2. Develop and review heavy Transportation, lifting and rigging engineering studies, lifting plans, transportation drawings, MS, TRA, and operational procedures, ensuring that all the Safety and L&R requirements (which include method statement, risk assessment, lifting, rigging study and L&R operation form) are adequately defined.
  3. Support L&R Manager as required in feasibility studies considering Shipyard capability along with Lifting and Transportation regulatory requirements such as international standards and Classification Societies.
    Review new projects SOW and provide feedback to His/ Her direct Management regarding lifting and rigging needs. 
  4. Support Technical Services HSE and Inspection teams in that Cranes, lifting equipment, Rigging Hardware, and associated equipment are, inspected properly color coded and marked in accordance with Company Policy and QHSE Management System.
  5.  Carry out supervisory responsibilities of His/ Her team in accordance with I Mi's policies and applicable laws.
  6.  Support department management as required in effective recruitment, selection, training, and certification of personnel; appraising performance; rewarding and counselling His/ Her team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems with participation of Technical Services Management.
  7. Work closely with Technical Services HSE team to engineer out potential hazards, to provide a safe working environment, for all employees. Be informed of changes to international lifting Standards and communicate them to relevant departments for implementation & compliance.
  8. Provide lifting expertise and guidance to Lifting & Transportation Engineers, lifting Superintendents, Supervisors, and Technical Services Management.
  9. Execution of other tasks and duties as assigned by Technical Services management

  • L&R Manager / Technical Services GM / L&R superintendent, Engineers, supervisors

 

External Interactions 

  • HSE department / MRO-team / New Build Vessel & Rigs project and construction managers AMMO Department 

 

Who we are looking for

Education:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Marine Engineering or equivalent (preferrable)

Professional Qualifications:

  • Appointed person in lifting operation - LEEA Certified
  • lifting and Rigging Engineering and technical training/ certification.

Competencies:

  • Preparation of lifting Plans, Method Statements
  • Drafting of required visual aids for plans, procedures, and methods
  • Cost conscious and conservative with resources
  • Excellent reporting skills
  • Work under pressure
  • Excellent supervisory skills

Experience:

  • 9-10+ years of similar role within shipbuilding or similar industry

Languages:

  • Fluent in English
  • Willingness to learn another language is a plus
