JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE
Summary of the main purpose of the job as the basic function and scope of the job in terms of organization, geographic areas supported, financial or other volume/size metrics, strategic impact and nature of supervision received or exercised related to the job in a descriptive manner
This job role is critical in ensuring that IMI is operating in accordance with set standards and procedures to ensure that health and safety of our employee’s, contractors, and visitors by maintaining a high level of compliance with all applicable legal, contractual, and regulatory requirements and obligations. Safety Officers will work closely with site supervision, managers, industrial worker, and contractors to ensure corporate HSE targets and objectives are met.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Areas of Accountabilities (list up to 10 prime activities) (Describe concisely each principles work activity listed in logical order normally the list with include the most important duty first indicating important decision and recommendations made if applicable; start sentences with action verbs first)
• Promote HSE awareness through proper communication of IMI HSE policies, standards, and procedures to the workers to enable compliance.
• Monitor compliance to IMI HSE standards, processes and procedures and provide necessary feedback/advice to line supervision/management team and HSE department.
• Take an active role in conducting, monitoring, and implementing hazard control processes including Task Risk Assessments (TRAs), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Permit-to-Work documentation/auditing and site safety programs.
• Assist frontline supervisors in ensuring pre-task toolbox talks are well delivered to the workforce on the control measures identified in risk assessments/safe systems of work and ensure that records are maintained.
• Participate and encourage active participation of the workers in HSE programs including but not limited to hazard identification, inspections, audits, awareness campaigns and Safety meetings.
• Carry out regular inspections of work areas, ensure that deficiencies are immediately reported/followed up and recorded as per IMI hazard reporting procedure.
• Conduct daily Permit to Work (PTW) and relevant certificates verification audits to ensure compliance with IMI procedure.
• Lead and participate in HSE audits (as required) of IMI onsite and offsite processes/activities to check on their compliance with local and international standards and company reference documents.
• Assist and participate (in accordance with IMI EMP) in emergency drills and during real emergency situations within IMI operational areas.
• Participate in incident investigations, compilation of incident reports and dissemination of lessons learned to the workers.
• Verify that corrective actions from (but not limited to) incident investigations, audits, inspections etc., have been communicated, implemented and are effective.
• Ensure that assets required for the safe performance of the works are identified, handled, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with relevant IMI policies and procedures.
• Collate and submit HSE reports to Project HSE Manager/Lead/Supervisor on daily, weekly, or monthly basis as required.
• Carry out any other duties as instructed by HSE supervisor(s)/Leads, actively contribute to the achievement of corporate and departmental KPIs by ensuring that required HSE-related documented information are maintained and available to the appropriate persons/group.
• May be required to work additional hours / days to meet operational requirements at short notic.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education
• Diploma in Safety or relevant discipline.
• NVQ OH&S Level 3, educated to secondary school level. (preferred).
Professional Qualifications (Certifications & Accreditations
• Attained or working towards obtaining the NEBOSH International General Certificate.
• Internal auditor (OH&S / EMS)
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
• Ability to communicate with site management team, clients and other parties, peers, and workforce.
• Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
• Ability to identify unsafe acts/practices and conditions and suggest control/mitigating measures.
• Ability to identify and implement HSE control processes to support the attainment of organizational HSE objectives, KPIs and deliverables.
• Ability to react appropriately in emergency situations and work calmly under pressure.
• Knowledge of applicable local and international regulations, standards and best practices.
• Competent understanding and communication of IMI HSE management systems and their implementation in respect to industrial / maritime yards and project operations.
• Possess working knowledge or have undergone training in incident investigation and Root Cause Analysis.
• Successfully completed Basic First Aid, and Authorized Gas Testing Training.
• Knowledge of the requirements as an IRCA auditor of the international standards such as ISO 45001:2018, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 55001:2014, ISO 31000:2018.
• Good communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work with cross-functional groups and people of diverse nationalities.

Experience
• At least 6-11 years’ experience in in a similar role within the GCC or in a reputable shipyard.
